Following this, lightly soak a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol, tap off the excess alcohol and then wipe over the earbud to clean the remaining bacteria. 

Last, you will want to use an alcohol wipe to wipe off the entire earbud and the surrounding wires, if any, which will help disinfect it.

Be sure not to use soapy water or other cleaning products as they may not be suitable for the earbud. Certain products may also do further damage to the earbud and prevent your full use and enjoyment.
